A creative craft that gives back to the earth
There’s something wildly satisfying about making something with your hands - especially when it blooms! Seed paper is handmade paper embedded with wildflower seeds that you can plant and grow. It’s a beautiful way to recycle old paper scraps and turn them into something that feels like a little bit of magic.
Perfect for gift tags, cards, or journaling, this is a fun, feel-good activity for tweens, teens (and grown-ups too).
What You’ll Need:
- Scrap paper (newspaper, tissue, printer paper - avoid glossy pages)
- A blender
- A bowl and water
- A strainer or mesh screen
- Wildflower seeds (native to your area if possible!)
- A rolling pin or tea towel
- A sunny spot to dry
How to Make It:
- Rip & Soak: Tear your paper into small pieces and soak in warm water for a few hours (or overnight).
- Blend: Add the soaked paper to a blender with enough water to make a thick, pulpy mix.
- Stir in Seeds: Pour into a bowl and gently stir in your seeds. Be gentle - you don’t want to blend them!
- Strain & Shape: Pour the pulp through your mesh screen and press it flat with a towel or rolling pin until it’s as thin or thick as you like.
- Dry: Leave your paper to dry in a warm spot. Once it’s completely dry, it’s ready to cut, write on, or gift.
Planting Tip:
To use, just place the seed paper under a thin layer of soil, water well, and keep in a sunny spot. Soon, your paper will grow into flowers!
A reminder that even small scraps can bloom into something beautiful.
